Cervical myelopathy refers to the syndrome that occur when the spinal cord in the neck is disturbed usually by extrinsic compression from a disc prolapse, excess bone or tumour. The syndrome often includes weakness, stiffness and clumsiness in the upper limbs. Initially the symptoms can be quite subtle and the progress slow. Early intervention is advisable to prevent permanent spinal cord damage.
